"Community-based health research with Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour communities in Canada"
Ciann L. Wilson - Wilfried Laurier University, Waterloo, Canada
Donnerstag, 17.10 2019, 18-20 Uhr (c.t.), im Raum 109 der Konradstr. 6, München.
Community-based health research is widely used in Canada and a well established methodological approach. Given the rise in popularity of art- and community-based research, there has been much conversation and critique about their use in knowledge production processes. Using case examples of her work with African diasporic, Indigenous, and other racialized communities, Ciann Wilson will interrogate the benefits and challenges of utilizing creative and familiar media methodologies in research. What are community and arts-based research approaches? Why are they useful? What are the disadvantages and the ethical ramifications of using these visual, creative, and expressive methods?
